About the Role

The Insights and Decision Science (IDS) team is committed to enhancing decision-making processes at Novartis by harnessing the power of data and advanced analytics to produce actionable insights that fuel business growth. We work in close partnership with the US business, offering insights and innovative ideas to facilitate smarter, data-driven decisions. Reporting to the ED of Data Governance, the Associate Director of Data Governance plays a pivotal role in executing the data governance strategy, ensuring that data is managed effectively to support the organization's strategic objectives.

In this role, the Associate Director will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a robust data governance framework that aligns with the broader goals of the IDS team. By fostering collaboration across cross-functional teams, the Associate Director will ensure that data initiatives are executed efficiently, enhancing data quality, security, and compliance. This position is integral to advancing the IDS mission by promoting data literacy, driving the adoption of governance policies, and ensuring that data-driven insights are reliable and impactful, ultimately supporting the organization's growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the data governance framework by actively participating in the development of key objectives, milestones, and roles and responsibilities.
  • Ensure effective domain ownership and stewardship, metadata management, data classification, documentation of requirements, and change control procedures are implemented
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings within governance councils, ensuring effective collaboration among stakeholders from cross-functional teams to manage and execute key data initiatives.
  • Apply data governance policies and standards by defining measures to support data security, privacy, and compliant usage of data
  • Collaborate with IDS teams to identify and implement data quality management processes ensuring appropriate oversight and mechanisms are in place to support ongoing monitoring and improvement
  • Utilize technology solutions to execute governance initiatives related to metadata management, data lineage, and business rules management. Actively work to enhance data awareness and accessibility through these technologies
  • Conduct training sessions and awareness programs on data governance initiatives, processes, and technology solutions to improve organizational data literacy and driving adoption and adherence to data governance policies
  • Track and report on data governance metrics and KPIs, ensuring they are aligned with organizational goals and are used to drive continuous improvement in data governance practices

Novartis seeks an individual with extensive experience overseeing data governance operations. The individual should have a deep understanding of industry best practices and a proven ability to manage data-related risks, including privacy and security concerns. A commitment to driving continuous improvement in data governance processes, informed by data insights and industry trends, is essential to this role.

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field.

Essential Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in Data Science, Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 6 to 8 years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related field, preferably within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to implement data governance policies and standards, with a focus on data security, privacy, and compliance
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams and facilitating collaboration among diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology solutions for metadata management, data lineage, and business rules management
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex data concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs to enhance organizational data literacy
  • Ability to track and report on data governance metrics and KPIs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary:  

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between: $132,300.00 and $245,700.00/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
